If telephoning the surgery outside normal surgery hours, you will hear a recorded message informing you how to get urgent care out-of-hours. If it is decided you need to see a doctor, appropriate arrangements will be made for you.
NHS 111
In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you should call 111. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor. This is the service to use when you need medical help and advice, but your problem is not an emergency requiring a 999 response. Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pain, difficulty in breathing, suspected stroke, unconciousness, severe bleeding, fitting or severe allergic reactions are examples of emergencies where it is appropriate to use the 999 emergency ambulance service.
Accident and emergency
All urgent and emergency care is now provided from Rotherham’s new purpose-built urgent and emergency care centre at Rotherham Hospital.
The £12.2m centre opened in July 2017 and has seen the previous Emergency Department and Walk-in Centre service (which was provided at Rotherham Community Health Centre) co-locate.
Where can I find the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre?
The Urgent and Emergency Care Centre is located on B Level of Rotherham Hospital. The centre has a dedicated external entrance and is clearly signposted.
What is the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre for?
The centre will treat anyone with an urgent or emergency care need.
An urgent care need is something which needs immediate care but isn’t life or limb threatening such as broken bones, burns and scalds, wounds and minor illnesses including fever, infections and rashes.
An emergency care need is something which is life or limb threatening. This can include things like choking, severe bleeding, chest pains and blacking out.
If people are unsure of where to go, there are a range of healthcare professionals who are able to advise the best course of treatment including pharmacists, GPs and the NHS 111 service.
